Top 4 Tips for Getting Your Family Outdoors this Summer Season

*this is a post from outside contributor

In today’s world of smartphones, video games, and over 100 or more channels to choose from on TV, families have gotten to the point where the start of summer no longer means they will be outside enjoying it. Today, most kids and their parents would prefer to sit up under the air conditioning and be entertained by technology instead of good old-fashioned outside play. However, it has been proven that adults need at least two and a half hours a week of outside activity and children should get at least sixty minutes a day.

Being outside has been proven to increase the health and happiness levels of both adults and children. It also helps to decrease the chance of developing obesity, a rampant epidemic affecting Americans today. With that in mind, read on below for a few of the top tips for getting your family outdoors and active this upcoming summer season.

Get Your Yard in Playing Condition

No kid wants to go outside and play on grass that is prickly or full of mud. The best way to accomplish getting your yard in playing condition is to start with a good quality grass seed which can be found through a specialist seller like Nature’s Seed followed up with lawn care after the seed is planted and grass is grown. Make sure that you mow your lawn on a weekly basis, keep up any dog poop that has gathered daily, and keep the yard in the type of condition that makes your children want to go outside and romp in the grass together.

Take Walks Together

Most parents know that walking daily is an extremely healthy activity. Not only is it good for your body, it’s great for your stress levels and mental health as well. Not only that, but it gives you more energy and makes you happier at the same time. One way to get your family outside more is to schedule a time where you walk together on a daily basis. Whether it’s in the morning or in the evening after dinner, walking with your family not only gets them outside more, it also gives you a chance to talk to them without headphones on or a smartphone in their hand.

Start Small

When it comes to getting your family outside, especially if they are used to sitting in the house, you are going to have to start small. Start by suggesting one small family activity, then another, until your family is ready to get outside for some outdoor fun whenever you are. Examples are taking the dog for a slightly longer walk or a small impromptu ball game in the backyard.

Make it Fun

The last thing you want to do is force your family to come out into the yard and play, so whatever you choose, make it fun. Whether it’s a dip in the pool, a BBQ on the patio with a ballgame included, or daily walks together to just chill, making it fun is the key to it being a success.

These are just a few of the top tips for helping you get your family outdoors and active this upcoming summer season. Put down the smartphones, turn off the TV and get together as a family to have fun in the sun.

Where to Find the Best Restaurants on Holidays

*this is a guest post

When you go on holiday you will want to indulge yourself and eat at the most popular restaurants in the city. If you’re new to a location it is hard to find the best meal. There are many helpful sites online, such as ShopClearly.com, that can point you in the right direction. The best tip to finding good food is to get out of your hotel and walk around to see what the locals are eating. You will then want to reference a book, or magazine, for the best local restaurants. If neither of these methods works, then you will want to use your smartphone to look up popular restaurants nearby.

There are many ways to find food when you’re on holiday, but none are simpler than walking around and talking with locals. Before you even leave your hotel, you should speak with the concierge for their recommendations. These people are often asked about popular places and they will suggest several options. When you are wandering around the city and see a large crowd gathering near a venue, then that place most likely has good food.

Don’t be afraid to spark up a conversation with someone about the restaurant, most people will give you friendly feedback and suggest other places you didn’t know about. As a general rule of thumb, if you are eating at a place that sells Korean food, and there are a lot of Korean people at the restaurant, then they most likely provide their customers with culturally authentic dishes.

The magazine market is inundated with cooking and restaurant material. When you walk down the magazine aisle of a grocery store, you will find over a dozen various food-related publications. It would be smart for you to flip through the pages of a few to find what’s popular in the community you are traveling to. There are countless travel books that will provide several recommendations for each type of food. Many writers spend their entire career traveling to new locations and trying everything the city has to offer. You can compare the reviews from the magazine with those from the locals, and make your decision from there.

If these options have failed you, the best way to find a restaurant will be to use your smartphone to look up what’s nearby. This is a fast way to compare multiple locations and find the food your taste buds desire. Many search engines will provide you with reviews from customers that describe their experience at the restaurant. These are helpful because you will find details that aren’t in book reviews, such as how the service was and specials that are currently offering. There are numerous apps on the market for restaurants, making it easier than ever to find food while on holiday. Don’t waste time looking for restaurants when you have all the answers at the tip of your fingers!
