Shopping for a New Home. Maybe in Kansas City?

We have rented for almost five long years since our move to the coast. I am tired of not having my own house! Instead of making my house a home like I should, I always have the feeling it is not mine so I won’t hang pictures on the wall. I won’t plant flowers in the yard. I won’t paint and decorate or even buy new furniture! I’m just waiting.

This spring, maybe, just maybe, we are going to shop for a new home! No we aren’t looking for Kansas City Homes. We are definitely staying on the coast. No way will I ever leave My Ocean. Yes, that is what I call it. My Ocean. After living my entire life in the Midwest and seeing the ocean only a few times, I can now take a glimpse of it daily if I want. Even get my toes wet. I feel very fortunate.

I would LOVE to get a house on the beach. Someday! A dream for sure. For now, I will settle for the subdivision we live in. I also feel spoiled to live where I do. My neighborhood is very self-contained. We have all the schools, 2 grocery stores, restaurants, the boy’s sports, Hubby’s exercise, and sidewalks galore to walk and run miles. I won’t leave it even though it is a bit of a drive to Hubby’s office and on the border of the city so driving can be a hassle when we want to go downtown or beyond.

I have a list of characteristics that the house I buy must contain. Do you want to hear them?

I want my house to backup to the woods, not another house. I would love for it to be in a cul-de-sac so the kids can freely ride their bikes and play ball. It has to have 4 bedrooms and an extra room downstairs that we can use as a playroom.

I need a front porch for my rocking chair and a back screened porch to keep the bugs out. A nice, large, yard would be awesome. I also would love an open floor plan. This allows me to be in the kitchen and interact with the family at the same time.

Am I asking too much? I don’t think so! 🙂

What do you look for in a home?
